Our game last night v. Northeast was called at the top of the 7th inning of the first game.

Galena sweeps Southeast, no-hits Lancers as well

GALENA —
In the first of two games at Galena, Southeast gave up seven runs in the first inning and did not get close to matching that by the end of the game.
It was no better in the second game, as the Lancers (1-2, 0-2) were no-hit in a game shortened by run rule.
The first game ended 9-4 in favor of Galena (3-1, 2-0 CNC), but most of that came in a first-inning explosion.
“We just swung our bats real well in the first game. We were very pleased with that inning,” said Galena head coach Ken Cook. “Zach Dainty is one of the best in the league, so we were pleased with that in the early going. He kind of shut us down after that, though.”
Not all of those runs came off hits, though.
“Those seven runs came on four hits and three errors. We had some miscues and they turned it around,”
said Southeast head coach Vic Colvin. “We just gave them way too many outs and opportunities. It wasn’t a very good night, but it’s a good night to reflect on.”
The second game was not any easier. The game only lasted five innings before being mercy ruled at 10-0.
Drew Bilke pitched four innings for Galena before being pulled for Daniel Williams. Why would Cook pull Bilke in the middle of a no-hit game?
“He did real well,” Cook said. “But we new that the game is all that matters. We have Colgan on Wednesday. We need him in relief on Wednesday. It was a good performance.”
Jacoby Martin and Troy Albright had home runs for Galena in the second game while Zach Gougler had a home run in the first game.

CHEROKEE — The Southeast junior varsity baseball team pounded out 10 hits, including three singles from Cade Ulery, to get past Galena 6-5 in the second game of a doubleheader at Cherokee on Tuesday night.
The Lancers fell 6-4 in the first game to earn a split with the Bulldogs.
In the second game, Lancer pitchers Steven Brisbin and Cody Rakestraw combined to hold Galena to just three hits while striking out 7 combined.
Brisbin also collected two singles in the winning effort as Southeast jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning.
In the first game, Galena’s Zach Gougler belted a home run to help pace the Bulldogs.
Gougler also threw three innings and had seven strikouts to get the win in the first game.
For Southeast, Colton Phelps had a double as the Lancers had five hits over five innings.
Galena took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the third but the Lancers collected four runs in the bottom half of the inning.

JV Games
For those of you looking for the JV game stats on MaxPreps, I haven't entered them in yet. I have contacted the site to see if there is a different way to enter the info in for JV without listing it as a Varsity game so that it doesn't affect the Varsity record. As soon as we get that worked out I will make sure I post that info.

CHEROKEE — For Southeast senior pitcher Zach Dainty, it was all about the coaching.
That was the primary reason why Dainty elected to sign a national letter of intent to play baseball at Coffeyville Community College next season.
“I went to Coffeyville and met all the coaches and they all seemed pretty enthused,” Dainty said.
Dainty, who was the Lancers’ No. 1 pitcher last year, eclipsed the 100 strikeout mark last season after tallying a 7-5 record with a 4.00 earned run average, said that the decision was more special knowing that he will follow in his brother Jake Dainty’s footsteps.
“It is pretty special and it is nice to be able to do something that he has done,” Zach Dainty said.
Jake signed to play baseball at Pittsburg State University out of high school.
For Southeast head baseball coach Vic Colvin, the signing was a landmark event for him as well.
“That was my first college signee on the high school level,” Colvin said.
And Colvin said that Zach Dainty will be an asset for the Red Ravens.
“He will be a hard-worker above all,” Colvin said. “One of the upper-tier of players that will work hard and is very dedicated.”
As for his role at Coffeyville, Zach Dainty said that the coaches told him that he would be used as a pitcher or utility player on the field.
“I just want to throw strikes and not walk batters,” Zach Dainty said. “That is what the coaches want me to do.”
But now, Zach Dainty can concentrate more on the 2009 high school season as he leads the Lancers who hope to make strides after last season’s 9-19 finish.
“I just want to lead the team to the top of the CNC,” Zach Dainty said.
Colvin said that, now the future is decided, Zach Dainty’s concentration level for the Lancers will be a big impact.
“I think he’ll do very well this year,” Colvin said. “I know that he is eyeballing that 100 strikeout mark but, he is a team guy over an individual and that is a big impact.”

CHEROKEE — The scoreboard at the Southeast high school baseball field was well broken-in for its debut on Friday night.
The Lancers were glad to see the fully operating board — which was installed over the school’s spring break — with its bright red lights in right field. However, what they liked even more, were the numbers that were posted on it: Southeast 22, Oswego 6.
“It looks great,” said Southeast pitcher Zach Dainty. “It’s pretty nice, when you turn it on you can actually see that it works. We’ve been without a scoreboard forever. Every time you come out to turn (the old one) on, the thing would never work.”
Dainty struck out 11 Oswego batters and picked up the win as Oswego struggled from the mound and walked 13 Southeast batters. The Lancers plated 15 runs in the seventh after scoring five in the fourth as Oswego opened its season at 1-0 with the win.
“We weren’t going to sit back there and bury somebody,” said head coach Vic Colvin. “But if the situation arises, it’s hard to pull the kids back after you’ve been working on fundamentals for so long.”
The Lancers were also ready to play on some grass. The Lancers had spent most of their time practicing in the gym due to inclement weather.
“We’ve been in that gym for a week-and-a-half straight,” Dainty said. “Just running sprints and not being able to get on the field. Everybody wants to get out and play instead of just sitting in the gym.”
Friday’s game was a make-up of a postponement from Thursday night’s game which was originally slated to be played in Oswego. It was moved to Southeast because of wet field conditions.
“We’ve had two rain-outs and we’ve been in the gym probably the better part of five weeks,” Colvin said. “So definitely, they’ve been wanting to get outside. It’s good to have them out.”
The game was tight early. The Lancers had taken a 1-0 lead in the first and Oswego had responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. However, they missed an opportunity when they left the bases loaded in the second. However the Lancers came up with right stops at the right time.
“It helped me relax a lot [knowing that the fielder’s were making plays],” Dainty said. “When you’re just throwing and you’ve got a team behind you, it helps a lot. You don’t have to worry about anything.”
The game was tied 2-2, but after the five-run fourth inning by the Lancers, six consecutive Oswego batters struck out in a three-inning span.
Southeast travels to Galena on Monday.
